Found a Few Words

Addiction is such a horrible reality. I have a lot of metaphors for it, and like to think through each of them from time to time. Here's one:

"Constant vigilance!" is the advice Barty Crouch Jr. (posing as Mad Eye Moody) gives out to Harry Potter. One wrong move . . . one lapse in attention to the danger lurking out there, and Harry's bacon is cooked. He can't just take a day off, have a normal Halloween ball or feast in the great hall with his friends. He's connected to the evil that is bent on destroying him. If he gives it one moment, he loses something or someone he cares about. All he wants is to forget it exists at all.

Okay, corny, I know. This, too, is how I roll.
