- Ani DiFranco Knuckle Down -- all of her albums are excellent, but this one doesn't have a single skippable song; her guitar on "Modulation" and "Lag Time" is perfect; and the title song, without getting too deep, pretty much articulates my thoughts on what life is really all about.
- Fleetwood Mac Tusk -- all of FM's albums before-and-through the Stevie Nicks era are classics, but Tusk is really a stand-alone. For me, it represents some of the band's best work, and includes my favorite Stevie songs "Storms", "Sisters of the Moon", and "Beautiful Child".
- Grateful Dead American Beauty -- this is the album where one of my favorite songs of all time "Ripple" first appeared. This is an album I can play any day, for any mood.
- Me'Shell Ndegeocello Cookie: The Anthropological Mix Tape -- the first time I heard this album, I was blown away. ". . . you like to have money in your pocketbook/that's alright/ ya gotta lotta sense/runnin' thru your bones/and THAT's a'ight/you like to be in the know/with all the major figures/and/that's alright/you like to hang out and shake that thing/all night/and that's alright".
- Widespread Panic Ain't Life Grand -- I just love this jam music, and love Panic. The title song is among my favorites, and goes onto all of the lovey-dovey mix tapes I make for Sly B. It makes me think of living, just living. "Watching people roll by/Wonder where they're going/Hey what's your job/What're you knowing?"

Best Albums?
Sly B and I were rollin' to the sushi place yesterday and started talking about our favorite albums. We thought it would be fun if everyone wrote a post with their top 10 (or 5, or whatever) albums. Here are mine for today:

I would never trust someone who's top albums never changed. They'd probably be boring and listen to talk radio only.
Currently:
#1 BJM - anything. Y'all know I am a huge fanatic.
#2 Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers, mostly for Moonlight Mile
#3 Bad Brains - I against I, Washington DC punk perfected.
#4 The Shins - Chutes too Narrow, beautiful and haunting
#5 Radiohead - OK Computer, well, duh, it's genius.

Too true - music changes with moods and breezes. I'm going to say that right now my favorite album:
1-5 The Coup - Pick a Bigger Weapon Cuz I've been listening to it over and over at work. Yes, it's a GREAT work - I love the rhythm and flow; but part of me listens to it cuz I fantasize about telling my boss "I'm supposed to be draggin' my foot out your motherf@*#ing ass" hourly -Ah, Boots Riley and Pam and the Funkstress are geniuses.
Course, I'll take this moment to admit that I have actually had moments in my life when I enjoy a certain Yanni cd. There, now y'all know.

2. Rufus Wainwright, "Poses" -- like washing down a valium with a kir royale, mmm...
3. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, "Fever to Tell"-- "let's do this like a prison break / I wanna see you scream and shake..."
4. David Bowie, "Ziggy Stardust"-- I see colors every time I listen to this.
5. The Beatles, "White Album" -- seriously.
6. A Tribe Called Quest, "People's Instinctive Travels And Paths Of Rhythm" -- "Wipe your feet really good on the rhythm rug..."
7. Elvis Costello, "My Aim Is True"-- Drive and sing along really loud and really badly.
8. Liz Phair, "Exile in Guyville" -- If you don't know why then never mind.
9. Carole King, "Tapestry"-- Ever since I was 8 years old.
10. Ella Fitzgerald singing the Cole Porter Songbook -- Her interpretation of "Love for Sale" just kills me.
