New Classics

Entertainment Weekly is one of my favorite rags. I love it just for the lists of DVDs that have come out each week. I walk it to the computer and add titles to my Netflix queue. Last week's issue was pretty interesting, I think. It covers lists of what they're calling "new classics." The top 100 films, TV shows, albums, and books of my generations' era. I thought I'd compare my lists to theirs, just for fun.

They started with film, so I will too. Their top 10 list is:

1. Pulp Fiction (1994)
2. The Lord of the Rings trilogy (2001-03)
3. Titanic (1997)
4. Blue Velvet (1986)
5. Toy Story (1995)
6. Saving Private Ryan (1998)
7. Hannah and Her Sisters (1986)
8. The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
9. Die Hard (1988)
10. Moulin Rouge (2001)

and you can read the entire list of 100 here.

I doubt that I could come up with 100 movie titles, so I'll list my 10 favorites:

1. Serenity
2. The Usual Suspects
3. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
4. Pecker/Little Miss Sunshine (tied)
5. Children of Men
6. The Life of David Gale
7. Freedomland
8. Southland Tales
9. Monster's Ball
10. Hustle & Flow

What do you guys like?
