I was really looking forward to watching 300, which I finally got a chance to do yesterday afternoon. I didn't love it.
Masculine, virile, white-skinned moral Greeks? Effeminate (and lesbian), disfigured, dark-skinned evil Persians? I just couldn't get past the racism in the film's casting/characterization to enjoy the story. The visually stunning film lost me from the start, unfortunately.
I loved Gerard Butler as Leonidas, but probably more for his airbrushed abs, enormous package, and the way he screamed "Spartans!" throughout the movie than for any other reason. I think I'll check out the graphic novel.
